MEMORY TREE is a short video art series exploring stands of primeval forest and the events that occurred at these locations. Part of an ongoing exploration of sites in memoriam and imagining nonhuman witnessing, this shot is of an ancient mango tree in a rainforest near the Rwandan border where thousands of refugees once fled, and where internally displaced people still live in encampments today, decades since the conflict there. These projects attempt to work as a form of moving image portraiture while quietly confronting the human stories sleeping at these sites.
