A study on surveillance, danger, gamification, and all that cameras cannot hold, OBSERVATION DECK is set at the edge of a village flanking wilderness where predators lurk. Infrared, motion-tracking, remote-operated cameras struggle and fail to convey the nuances of a living, imperiled ecosystem of this wild landscape at night. Yawning darkness is interrupted by voyeuristic lenses, pixelated flying insects, whirring servos, and low-resolution digital distortion of light and life, never quite capable of resolving. Meanwhile, from the shadows, one subject watches and begins to approach.
